Internships
Congresswoman McDonald Rivet is looking for motivated and driven interns for her Washington, D.C. office and her district offices in Flint and Saginaw Township.
To apply, please complete the form at the end of this page and attach a resume, cover letter, and a document with contact information for three references. Ties to Michigan’s 8th District are preferred but not required.
There are three internship terms per year; exact start and end dates will be determined upon hiring.
Spring Internship Term: January – April
Summer Internship Term: May – August
Fall Internship Term: August – December
We are no longer accepting applications for the Fall 2025 internship program.
Interns are paid a stipend, and the office will also work with an intern’s college or university for course credit.

Washington, D.C. Office
The Washington, D.C. office is open Monday through Friday 9 AM – 6 PM when the House is in session and 9 AM – 5 PM on non-session days. Exact schedule and number of hours per week will be determined upon hiring.
Responsibilities for Washington, D.C. interns include:
- Answering phone calls and greeting and assisting office visitors
- Logging phone calls, mail, and other constituent correspondence
- Leading constituents on tours of the U.S. Capitol
- Attending hearings and briefings and taking notes for legislative staff
- Conducting research on issues or topics related to bills, committee hearings, and district, state, and national concerns as needed
- Any other tasks assigned by the Internship Coordinator and staff

Flint and Saginaw Township District Offices
The district offices in Flint and Saginaw Township are open 9 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday. Exact hours and number of hours per week will be determined upon hiring. Interns may work in the Flint or Saginaw Township office; location preferences will be discussed during the interview process.
Responsibilities for district office interns include:
- Answering phone calls and greeting and assisting office visitors
- Opening, sorting, and distributing mail and other messages
- Drafting responses to constituent correspondence
- Monitoring news outlets and social media to stay informed of relevant district and legislative news
- Conducting research on issues or topics related to bills, committee hearings, and district and state concerns as needed
- Attending meetings with constituents and assisting with relevant events
- Any other tasks assigned by the Internship Coordinator and staff
