McDonald Rivet Statement on Actions to Secure the Border and Ensure Humane Enforcement

Friday, September 12, 2025

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) released the following statement after taking action to secure the border and ensure humane enforcement:

“Our immigration system is broken and not working for anybody. While both parties seek to demonize and use the issue as a political football, I share the priorities of the vast majority of Americans: stop illegal border crossings and deport undocumented immigrants who commit violent crimes, modernize and fix our legal immigration system, and fund law enforcement to do their jobs while making sure they follow our constitution.

“Yesterday, I voted for the Stop Illegal Entry Act, because there needs to be strict consequences for undocumented people who repeatedly cross the border illegally, especially those who commit violent felonies.

“At the same time, I took several steps this week to add oversight and accountability over the Department of Homeland Security. Unidentified ICE agents violating due process and wrongly kidnapping Americans is unconstitutional and un-American. I joined the Humane Accountability Act to ensure ICE agents follow due process, and I wrote Secretary Noem, demanding answers about reports of racial profiling in ICE activities and demanding transparency in their spending of taxpayer dollars.

“It’s wrong when people in both parties continue to use immigration to demonize and divide our country. Leadership requires us to get serious, honestly call balls and strikes, and actually work on solving our broken system.”
