McDonald Rivet Introduces Bill to Help Farmers Preserve Land and Long-Term Profits

Monday, July 14, 2025

WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) recently introduced the bipartisan Conservation and Regenerative Optimization Practices (CROP) for Farming Act. This bill, supported by Republicans and Democrats, would help farmers protect long-term profit and reduce carbon emissions and pollution, preserving their land for future generations.

“The success of our farmers and protecting the environment go hand in hand,” said Congresswoman McDonald Rivet. “I hear from farmers all the time whose families have worked their land for generations and who want to conserve that same land for future generations. Through the CROP for Farming Act, I am working with both parties to make that easier to achieve.”

Congresswoman McDonald Rivet introduced the legislation alongside Congressmen Mike Lawler (NY-17) and Josh Riley (NY-19).

The Department of Agriculture’s Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) provides technology and funding to farmers to use conservation strategies on their land. The CROP for Farming Act would prioritize EQIP’s payments to farm efforts that reduce nitrous oxide, carbon, and methane emissions, cutting harmful pollutants and improving soil health for future farming.

Congresswoman McDonald Rivet is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, which has jurisdiction over agricultural policy nationwide and provides funding to support agricultural research and development.
