McDonald Rivet Announces $5 Million Grant to Enhance Riverbank Park in Flint

Wednesday, August 27, 2025

FLINT— Today, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) announced new federal grant funding to enhance Riverbank Park in Flint, supporting new features and improving safety and accessibility.

The $5 million grant – issued through the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) – will fund new amenities and renovations at Riverbank Park, including pavilions, picnic tables, benches, bike racks, barbecue stations, sidewalks, accessible paths, ramps, handrails, outdoor exercise stations, lighting, and refurbished restrooms.

“Local parks bring communities together,” said Congresswoman McDonald Rivet. "Riverbank Park will be an even better place for those who live and work in Flint to come together, play, and enjoy beautiful green space in the heart of downtown.”

“This $5 million ORLP investment in the Flint Riverbank Restoration Project is a transformative opportunity for our community. The improvements will revitalize Riverbank Park, creating safe, accessible, and welcoming spaces for residents and visitors,” said Patrick Linihan, Director of the Genesee County Parks. “As a key piece of the new Flint State Park—Michigan’s 104th state park—this project will serve as a cornerstone for outdoor recreation locally and across the state.”

The National Park Service’s LWCF State and Local Assistance Program provides matching grants for park projects outside national park boundaries. These grants fund state and local projects to create and expand parks, and develop recreation facilities.
