McDonald Rivet Announces $4.6 Million Grant for MBS International Airport

Friday, July 18, 2025

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) announced new federal grant funding to support runway reconstruction at MBS International Airport in Saginaw County.

The $4,657,313 grant – issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation – would fund the reconstruction of Taxiway A, including rehabilitating approximately 6,400 feet of runway and updating the runway’s lighting and signage.

“Revitalizing critical infrastructure at airports like MBS International is one of the best things we can do to attract travel and investment to our region,” said Congresswoman McDonald Rivet. “This project at MBS will make flying to and from mid-Michigan safer and easier, while supporting our local economy and creating good-paying construction jobs in the process.”

“We are incredibly grateful to receive this $4.6 million grant through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program. This funding allows us to complete the final phase of our Taxiway A rehabilitation project—reconstructing vital pavement and lighting infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life,” said James Canders, Airport Director of MBS International Airport. “Support like this ensures that MBS International Airport can continue operating safely, efficiently, and reliably for the entire region. We especially appreciate Representative Kristen McDonald Rivet’s ongoing advocacy for Michigan airports and infrastructure investment.”

Congresswoman McDonald Rivet is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, which has jurisdiction over airport and aviation infrastructure policy nationwide.
