Congresswoman McDonald Rivet Statement on Military Action in Venezuela

Saturday, January 3, 2026

WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) released the following statement on the United States’ military action in Venezuela.

“Americans have lost far too much blood and taxpayer money to reckless, poorly thought-through forever wars and regime change. We cannot afford another.

“Thank you to our brave troops who carried out last night’s operation with incredible precision and skill. We are grateful that they all returned home safely.

“Nicolás Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator who has harmed millions of Venezuelans and Americans. I support strong solutions to hold him accountable and stop drugs from coming into the United States, but a troops-on-the-ground regime change effort carries extraordinary risk for our troops and our country.

“The Administration must immediately brief Congress about their plans in Venezuela, and if they involve the long-term engagement of U.S. armed forces, Americans need a public debate and Congressional approval.”
