Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet Sworn in to 119th Congress
“It’s time to get to work.”
WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) was sworn into the 119th Congress today, marking the beginning of her first term. Congresswoman McDonald Rivet is the first woman to serve mid-Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Upon her swearing in, Congresswoman McDonald Rivet promised to be a problem-solving, independent voice for the working families of mid-Michigan.
“I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to represent mid-Michigan in Congress. My top priority is making life easier for working Michiganders who roll up their sleeves every day to provide for their families,” said Congresswoman McDonald Rivet. “I look forward to bringing their voices to Washington, and to working with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to lower costs, create good-paying jobs, and protect our fundamental freedoms. It’s time to get to work.”
Congresswoman McDonald Rivet was recently elected by her peers to serve as the Freshman Leadership Representative to the New Democratic Coalition. The “New Dems” are a group of more than 100 middle-of-the-road Democrats in the 119th Congress, committed to working with members of both parties to deliver common sense solutions. With this leadership position, Congresswoman McDonald Rivet will be able to elevate issues important to Michigan families – like lowering costs, creating good-paying jobs, and keeping mid-Michiganders safe.
The Congresswoman most recently served in the state Senate, where she spearheaded the largest tax cut for working families in Michigan history, and she authored legislation to lower the costs of housing, prescription drugs, and childcare. She also secured funding that has helped bring thousands of good-paying jobs back to mid-Michigan.
