WNEM: Michigan Congresswoman, Republicans Vote Down EV Mandate
SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet voted with Republicans on Capitol Hill to repeal the Environmental Protection Agency’s waivers for California’s vehicle emission standards.
The mandate requires zero-emission cars to account for 35% of car sales in 2026, 51% by 2028, and 100% by 2035.
Analysis from the Center for Automotive Research determined a similar rule would decrease the number of cars produced in the United States by millions, leading to over 100,000 auto jobs lost.
McDonald Rivet said Americans should be able to choose the cars they drive, and the cost of electric vehicles right now is too expensive.
“I can’t tell our farmers, our construction workers, or even the families that live next door to me that they will be required to for these vehicles that are, right now, are really expensive,” she said.
Eleven states have adopted the California mandate.
