WEYI/WSMH: Congresswoman McDonald Rivet holds roundtable to discuss challenges faced by local farmers

SAGINAW COUNTY, Mich. — Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet met with farmers and agribusiness leaders today to discuss the pressing challenges they face.

The roundtable discussion was held during Michigan State University Extension’s Field Day.

During the event, Mid-Michigan growers and agribusiness leaders expressed concerns over rising costs and the impacts of harmful chemicals used on crops.

"Right now, when the funding for the research that helps them grow more with fewer costs that are resilient with the fluctuations in weather and pests and diseases to make sure we can still produce the food that we need, are really in jeopardy," said McDonald Rivet.

Attendees were also taken on tours where agriculture research was shared with them.
