MLIVE: MBS International Airport receives $4.6M federal grant for runway reconstruction
TITTABAWASSEE TWP, MI – MBS International Airport in Saginaw County will receive new federal grant funding to support runway reconstruction.
A $4.6 million grant issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation will help fund the reconstruction of Taxiway A, including rehabilitating approximately 6,400 feet of runway and updating the runway’s lighting and signage.
“We are incredibly grateful to receive this $4.6 million grant through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program,” MBS International Airport Director James Canders said in a statement.
“This funding allows us to complete the final phase of our Taxiway A rehabilitation project—reconstructing vital pavement and lighting infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life. Support like this ensures that MBS International Airport can continue operating safely, efficiently, and reliably for the entire region.”
The office of U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet announced the grant allotment after helping to obtain the funding.
McDonald Rivet is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, which has jurisdiction over airport and aviation infrastructure policy nationwide.
“Revitalizing critical infrastructure at airports like MBS International is one of the best things we can do to attract travel and investment to our region,” McDonald Rivet said in a statement. “This project at MBS will make flying to and from mid-Michigan safer and easier, while supporting our local economy and creating good-paying construction jobs in the process.”
