Congresswoman McDonald Rivet Statement on Iran Conflict War Powers Resolution

Wednesday, June 3, 2026

WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) released the following statement in response to today’s vote on a bipartisan war powers resolution to rein in President Trump’s unauthorized military actions in Iran. The resolution passed in the House 215-208.

“Iran should never have a nuclear weapon, but for months, the Administration has failed to explain exactly what their goals are and how they’re going to end this war. Every day they delay is another day the lives of men and women of our military are at risk.

“It’s ridiculous to continue spending billions of dollars on a war without goals while families and seniors struggle to make ends meet. Gas has been well over $4 per gallon, and cuts to health care and food assistance are pushing budgets to the brink. The people I represent have been asking for lower costs, not another forever war in the Middle East.

“Today, I voted alongside colleagues from both sides of the aisle to put an end to this out-of-control spending, bring our servicemembers back home to their families, and end the war in Iran.”
