Congresswoman McDonald Rivet Statement on Iran Conflict War Powers Resolution
WASHINGTON— Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) released the following statement in response to today’s vote on a bipartisan war powers resolution to limit President Trump’s military actions in Iran.
“Families in mid-Michigan are working harder, but struggling to keep up with rising prices and pay the bills. The $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and food assistance and $4 trillion added to our federal deficit from the One Big Beautiful Bill only made things harder, and now, they’re being asked to foot the bill for a war in the Middle East that has cost American taxpayers $1 billion per day, so far, and is already sending gas prices through the roof.
“Let’s be clear, it is important that we weaken the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, it is good that Ayatollah Khamenei can no longer run his terror networks, and Iran must never be able to build nuclear weapons. However, decisions about war and peace are the most sacred our nation faces, and they must be considered with moral and strategic clarity. This Administration has failed to explain a clear imminent threat, objectives, or a timeline for America’s involvement. Sadly, we all know the immense cost of sending men and women into a dangerous conflict in the Middle East without that clarity.
“Working families I represent need us to be smart and put their needs first. I voted today to demand the President answer these key questions before Congress authorizes the Administration to spend our taxpayer dollars and send our kids to another war in the Middle East.”
